Our Community Garden Produces Its First Harvest of the Season
The children of Añañau planted, watered, and cared for their garden all season long. Last month, they harvested the first vegetables — a proud moment for everyone involved.
The children of Añañau planted, watered, and cared for their garden all season long. Last month, they harvested the first vegetables — tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and spinach — a proud moment for everyone involved.
The community garden project is part of our broader environmental education program. Children learn where food comes from, how ecosystems work, and why caring for the land matters.
From seed to plate
The harvested vegetables were used to prepare a communal meal at the centre, shared between children, staff, and visiting families. For many of the children, it was the first time they had grown and eaten their own food.
We plan to expand the garden in 2026 with additional raised beds and a composting area.
