Emma, a 23-year-old education student from Ghent, spent 8 weeks volunteering at Añañau during the summer of 2025.

We sat down with her to hear about her experience, the challenges she faced, and the lasting friendships she built along the way.

Why did you choose Añañau?

"I wanted something real. Not just ticking boxes, but actually contributing. A friend had volunteered here the year before and told me about the 360° approach. That structure gave me confidence."

What was your day-to-day like?

"Mornings I helped with the after-school prep and literacy sessions. Afternoons were creative arts. The children are so curious and full of energy. By week two I was completely in love with the work."

What would you tell someone considering it?

"Do it. It will stretch you, challenge your assumptions, and give you memories that last a lifetime. And learn some Spanish first!"
